We are thrilled to announce the extraordinary success of our first-ever virtual fundraising event, our Dia del Sol 2020 Virtual Auction! A spectrum of incredible auction items, as well as our exciting grand finale dinner at Dolce, drew in a whopping $75,000!

With 50 years behind us developing our signature event, Dia del Sol, it's easy to understand how we were somewhat reluctant to adopt major changes to our traditional luncheon and fashion show format. However, despite a temporary reduction in services that UCP San Diego is able to provide due to coronavirus precautions, their needs have not stopped with the pandemic. So, our hard working members put our heads together to find new ways to safely engage our incredibly supportive audience and generate significant funding for UCPSD.  We were encouraged to see the positive response among our other nonprofit peers in their own virtual fundraising efforts, so we rolled up our sleeves and jumped into this new territory with the intention of curating the best possible auction with quality packages our patrons have come to expect from The Beach & Country Guild.

We are honored to have such pivotal partnerships with businesses and individuals in the community — including within our own membership! — who donate exceptional items to present in our auction. Additionally, we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our dear friends at Dolce, whose support has been unflagging over several years. 

We look forward to celebrating this success by supporting those who support us, and we hope you will join us as we express our gratitude through our patronage. 

And most importantly, we are so grateful for everyone who has contributed as we continue to work toward our mission of supporting United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego County. We look forward to seeing you at Dia del Sol 2021!

What is Dia del Sol?

Beach & Country Guild founders Gladys Irwin and Jeanne Blumenthal launched Dia del Sol as an intimate gathering at a private home that included lunch and games of bridge and tennis. The event has grown to host between 150 to 250 ladies annually, and over the course of the Guild’s history, Dia del Sol has been held at some of the most spectacular private residences in Rancho Santa Fe.

More recently, the event has moved to other locations, including Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, and Park Hyatt Aviara, to accommodate our growing audience, but the Guild’s dedication to UCPSD remains unwavering, consistently generating between $150,000-$250,000 annually.

Traditionally, guests at Dia del Sol will enjoy silent and live auctions, plus additional opportunity drawing chances, wine pull, and more. The most powerful element of the luncheon is arguably the children’s fashion show, starring child models of varying abilities, including those affected by cerebral palsy. The event’s grand finale is a professionally staged fashion show featuring fall looks from premium designer brands.

In response to the global pandemic, the Guild is unable to host Dia del Sol in its usual format in 2020, but the need to adapt impacts neither our dedication to UCP San Diego, nor the ongoing need for the services it provides to clients living with cerebral palsy and other disabilities here in San Diego. For that reason, Dia del Sol 2020 returns reinvented as an exciting five-day virtual auction from October 4 through October 8, featuring unique packages and luxurious destinations both local and far-flung to appeal to every bidder’s taste.

The Guild is fortunate to have a dedicated following. So much of our support is comprised of wonderful friends and neighbors who’ve been attending Dia del Sol for decades, many of whom have even been previous hostesses, and who count Dia del Sol among their most anticipated events of the year. It is our hope that every person who comes to experience Dia del Sol for the first time is simply a return guest in the making!
