About Us

Founded in 1970, The Beach & Country Guild is an all-volunteer organization of women dedicated to generating funds in support of United Cerebral Palsy in San Diego (UCPSD) and the programs, facilities, and services it provides its clients.

Every element of our operation is performed by our members; there are no paid positions within the group. Everything from fundraising to finances, media relations to the planning and execution of our major fundraiser, Dia del Sol, is generated, planned, or procured by our membership.

Membership within the Guild is invitation-only. New member candidates are thoughtfully selected by existing members because of their unique skills and attributes that would benefit the group, and they will share our passion for our goal of supporting UCP San Diego.

Due to a unique clause in the Guild’s bylaws, all funds raised by our organization remain in San Diego county, ensuring that our efforts benefit our neighbors within our community.

With net annual contributions to UCP San Diego averaging between $150,000 and $250,000, the Beach & Country Guild is a significant factor within the annual operations of UCP in San Diego County.

A Message from the President

I was first introduced to this incredible organization over twenty years ago, when my mom, already a Guild member, asked if I’d be interested in volunteering at Dia del Sol. dmurphyThough I knew very little about Beach & Country Guild before that day, I remember how powerful this first experience was, opening my eyes to the hard work of the women within the Guild, the beauty and strength of the kids I saw modeling in the fashion show, and the pure gratitude that UCP San Diego has for everyone who helps them work toward their goal of enabling people with disabilities to live a life without limits. I was hooked.

Over the years, I’ve been privileged to be a part of this group as it grew and evolved, multiplying in numbers, increasing net proceeds, and adapting to time and taste. Dia del Sol was a not-to-be missed event even in its infancy, when it was just a quaint ladies lunch with some tennis and bridge, and now it’s become a fixture on the October calendars for so many, year after year, who seek a fun and exciting way to make a meaningful contribution to people in their own community.

It is an honor to be a part of this organization, composed of a truly unique and diverse group of women who share a single mission: to raise funds to support United Cerebral Palsy in San Diego. Over the course of our 48–year history, the Guild and our contributions have grown together to become a significant and meaningful facilitator to what UCP is able to provide its consumers throughout the county, helping them to work and live to their full potential.

We are equally proud of and humbled by the work we do and the successes we achieve every year, none of which are possible without the dedication of every single member of our organization and the overwhelming support we receive from individuals and businesses within our community.

-Deanna Murphy, 2017 Beach & Country Guild President
